The
RAC are calling for the re-introduction of warning signs of
danger spots for road users. These were faded out about 30
years ago by the DETR as they moved their focus onto the cause
of road trafiic accidents. It was decided that these signs
did not work as drivers were choosing alternative routes that
could not be monitored effectively. The RAC argue that placing
signs detailing the number of people who have either died
or been seriously injured at selected hotspots would encourage
more cautious driving. The magazine AutoExpress is heading
a campaign for the re-introduction of these warning signs.
