Complaints procedures for
Emergency Breakdown Services
| General
Comment - |
The "fourth
emergency service" or "knights of the road" etc. Most have
customer charters that give details of the level of service you can expect.
Consult these if you are unsure of whether to complain about extended delays
for example. Plenty of links to further information
have been given below if you are unsure of the procedures outlined here. |
| Step
1 - |
Local resolution
1: You are advised to mention any complaint you have to the person
dealing with you at the time (This will not always be possible). This
may be the car mechanic or the person dealing with you on the phone. After
the event you should be referred to step 2.
|
| Step
2 - |
Local resolution
2: If you are unhappy with the service you have received from an emergency
breakdown service you should complain directly to the customer service
department within the relevant organisation. You should keep any documentation
given to you when you were given your service.
|
| Step
3 - |
Authorities:
In all cases, if the complaint is still unresolved then you can seek advice
from your local Trading Standards
Office or Citizens' Advice
Bureau. They will give you free advice and may take up your complaint
for you.
|
| Step
4 - |
Court: Failing
all else you can still go to court to resolve your dispute. Details of
small claims court and other procedures are given in the Legal Section
of this site. You can also contact the Community Legal Service (justask.org.uk)
that gives access to free advice. Otherwise your local Citizens' Advice
Bureau will give you advice and will sometimes organise free legal representation
for you.
